Where have you joined SpinMe Imaging House from? (Your past experience)

I’ve held many jobs in retail, my interest has always been photography. Growing up riding bikes with my friends we’d always document our progress with images. So, capturing the perfect moment where the trick is at its best, was key. As time went on and my patience in retail faded, I went to university to home in on my interest. (Being a professional mountain bike rider hadn’t happened, so I switched my attention to the next best thing.) I graduated from NUA in Norwich with a BA hons in Photography. Whilst in Norwich I worked at Schuh, starting as Christmas temp, then working my way up to management, all whilst doing a degree. One thing I noticed whilst at Schuh was that they had 360 spins on their website. Unbeknown to me it was SpinMe that provided the capability for them to do that. I wondered how this was done and around 4-5 years ago it was new to me, which made me want to be a part of it.

What attracted you to your job here at SpinMe when you started?

Whilst working at Schuh I was aware of 360 spins but wasn’t sure on how it was achieved. So, when I had the opportunity to find out and broaden my skill set, I was all too happy to jump at the chance. The variety of products that SpinMe offered to shoot, would give me the opportunity to broaden my skill set greatly.

What does your typical day look like? (All the way from breakfast through to relaxing after work)

I’ll tend to wake up at about 6:30am. Lay in bed staring at the ceiling for about 10 minutes. Then I’ll roll out of bed and feed my house rabbit called Luna, as she tends to be up way before me and always seems to be very hungry in the morning. I will then give Luna some fuss for a little while, then around 7am I’ll whack the kettle on and make a coffee for me and my girlfriend. I will then go downstairs into the living room and do my morning routine of stretching. From this, I’ll then head back upstairs to get ready for work and once I’m showered and dressed, I shall make my breakfast. When I’ve consumed that, I head back upstairs to see how the rabbit and my girlfriend are getting on. When I’ve made sure the Luna has enough food and water to last the day, I’ll set off on my drive to work. After 25 minutes of traffic I will then arrive. I say ‘Good morning’ to everybody, head to the kitchen and fuel my body with another cup of coffee. Then once that task has been completed, I’ll get started on with the days shooting. When my working day is done, I’ll head home and either watch something on Netflix, or I will find something car related to watch on YouTube. Amongst me watching Netflix or YouTube, I will eat my dinner and chase the rabbit around the house because she would of most definitely either eaten something she shouldn’t or be digging something she shouldn’t.

What photography do you enjoy creating the best?

I enjoy all aspects of photography however, I’m not sure what I enjoy creating the most. I really enjoy using film though. I really enjoy the whole process that comes with film. Thinking about what you’re trying to capture, how you’re going to frame it? Is it lit correctly? Have you set your exposure right? Is everything correct? These are all things you must think about before you can take the picture. Once you’ve taken the picture, the mechanical aspect then comes into play and the winding to the next frame is very satisfying. There’s also the waiting with film, it’s not instant like digital. So, there is always a sense of anticipation when waiting for your film to develop.

How long have you been a photographer?

Well, I’ve been taking pictures since I was about 14. However, I’ve been doing it full time for just over 3 years now.

Do you have a hobby? Tell us about it!

I have many hobbies and interests and one hobby of mine that I’m currently working on is modifying my Honda Integra Type R into a track day car. Whilst doing this, I’m becoming more mechanically minded and it gives me a massive sense of satisfaction when driving round a track in something that you’ve spent time, money and tears on. It’s also a great way to spend the day with your friends, whilst driving fast round a track and having a laugh. Another activity which I enjoy is going to the gym. I go four times a week and have now settled into a lovely routine of a mixture of strength training and a touch of cardio, to avoid that infamous ‘Weight lifters belly’. As I mentioned previously, I thoroughly enjoy cycling. When I was younger it was more a case of going into the woods and building a big set of jumps and learning new tricks. Now, I enjoy a nice leisurely cycle round the countryside on my road bike, as I don’t heal as fast as I used to. Over the past year my girlfriend and I are really getting into the outdoors, visiting national parks and exploring what the great outdoors has to offer.
